
Fremantle musician, Helen Townsend, understands the power of music and knows how to harness it to tell a story which gathers you up and sweeps you along. A singer-songwriter with a laid-back performance style that will have you looking into your soul one minute and rocking the next, Helen Townsend is influenced heavily by her life’s journey and unique observations on life.
Born in Sydney, she first picked up a guitar at the age of 13. A wide range of music has reached out to her over the years; she eventually gravitated to the Americana genre. Helen’s songs resonate with her audience, and she has built a loyal following since her debut album was launched in 2014.
Helen’s songs are sweeping stories from the heart. She looks life in the eye and finds a way to sing about what we don’t always see. Helen delivers intelligent lyrics and plays with a passion born of her life experiences. An exceptional live performer with a pure and concise delivery – it’s a combination of this, her originality and authenticity that has garnered her widespread respectability.
Helen has played to audiences throughout Australia and internationally with both her ‘Wayward Heart’ EP and ‘Little Lover’ album receiving a plethora of industry recognition. She has performed at festivals, house concerts and residencies in Fremantle and with yet another EP, ‘Love Lies ‘n’ Leaving’ in progress and her first single ‘Devils Curse’ recently released, 2020 is quickly becoming another exciting year for Helen.
This is Helen’s fourth year facilitating Quest workshops. She is looking forward to working with another set of up-and-coming West Australian musicians.
